question about filing for divorce

This is not for me. A good friend has finally decided to file for divorce from her deadbeat husband. She is wanting to do as much as possible herself to avoid attorney costs. She had a paralegal friend help her draw up papers last year and now she is ready to file them. I offered to go with her for moral support, but neither one of us knows exactly which court we have to go to to file them. I have seen some conflicting info online. Do we go to the county clerk, district clerk, family law center or none of the above? She resides in Montgomery County. Do you typically have to have an appointment?

Thanks for any info anyone can provide. We don't want to take a day off from work and drive to Conroe only to go to the wrong place.

Re: question about filing for divorce

  • She needs a lawyer. They have plenty of low cost attorneys that can do it and charge her very little, especially in Montgomery County....but she def. needs a lawyer.
