Houston Babies

Could use some good thoughts, please.

Amelia is sick, really, really sick.  She started coughing a bit last Saturday and started running a fever.  We went to the doctor first thing Monday morning and was told to give her antibiotics, steroids and breathing treatments every 4 hours.  We've done everything religiously and have taken her in to steam in the shower at least once a day.  Nothing has worked.

Her breathing is still labored and she's wheezing.  We went in for a follow-up today and they sent us for a chest x-ray.  We will find out later today, but there's a chance that she has pneumonia.  We go back tomorrow morning for another follow-up and if there's no progress they're talking about sending her to Children's Hospital.

They've switched all of her meds up and gotten more agressive.  Please send your good thoughts her way that they'll start working and soon!

Thank you so much.

  • Almost the exact thing happened to us starting the Saturday before Christmas - but there was never any talk of hospitalization. ?He did have pneumonia caused by a virus, but the antibiotic shots, oral steroids, inhaled steroids, and albuterol breathing treatments at home took care of everything. ?I sure hope she starts doing better soon! ?Make sure you keep her hydrated and do the breathing treatments in the middle of the night, if she needs them. ?I will definitely have you guys in my thoughts/prayers.
  • Oh and you may already know this - but if she gets a spurt of energy, she really does just need to relax and lay low - so keep her occupied with tv, drawing, reading, puzzles, etc - sitting quietly. ?Owen would start actively playing/running around with any ounce of energy he got as he was getting better and would overexert himself and crash. ?His doctor really emphasized making him relax and as he was getting better to keep him away from other kids/sick people for a bit to keep his immune system up. ?She also recommended the DanActive immunity yogurt drinks - you may want to ask your dr about them (since he had been on so many antibiotics).?

  • Oh K I'm so sorry.  Please know you are in our thoughts.  Hopefully this new course will knock it out.  Please keep us posted.
  • Many, many good thoughts and prayers to you all.

I second the probiotic thought.  These are wonderful and C takes them daily.  They do give the immune system a boost among other good things.
