Hey Ladies -
I have a few questions about IVF stuff can you please help me out
I know most of these will be answered by IVF nurse at class next week but I like to be prepared and I'm a little freaked out that this is finally happening!
1. When you get your box of meds, which meds need to be refrigerated? Are they clearly marked? (I may have delivery go to my mom's and don't want her to be confused)
2. Once you are suppressed, when do you start stims? So, for example if you are suppressed on a Wednesday, do you start that night or wait a couple of days?
3. How long did you stim for?
4. Any tips for giving shots? I am dreading the PIO!!!
Thank you so much for your help, I so appreciate it.
Re: IVF#1 and I have some ?'s, please come in (saif)
lol, we are such newbies to this:) I just asked another question, too. I am so excited that we will be cycling at pretty much the same time.
I have no idea what the answers are, but I am also curious:)
1. The only drug I needed to refrigerate was my Gonal F and it was clearly marked, each box details its storage instructions. ?Also, the refrigeration for?
Gonal F is to increase its shelf life, so you'll want to leave it out once you start using it so the med is room temp when its injected.
?
2. I started stims the day they decided I was fully supressed, I'm not sure this is the common protocol though.?
3. I stimmed for 10 days
4. ?My best tip for PIO is to run the vial under hot tap water before preparing the syringe, it get the oil looser and easier to inject. ?
?
GL?
Good luck!!!!!!!!!
1. When you get your box of meds, which meds need to be refrigerated? Are they clearly marked? (I may have delivery go to my mom's and don't want her to be confused). I had to refigerate the Lupron. PIO had a big label that said do not refrigerate. All my other meds were powder form so no refrigeration necessary. I read all of the labels to see what temperature they needed to be kept at.
2. Once you are suppressed, when do you start stims? So, for example if you are suppressed on a Wednesday, do you start that night or wait a couple of days? I had my suppression check in the AM of CD 3 and started stims that same night.
3. How long did you stim for? About 8 days.
4. Any tips for giving shots? I am dreading the PIO!!! Ice a minute or so before PIO, and a warm compress after will help the oil break up.
Good luck!
After 22 cycles and tube removal our IVF miracle has arrived! Detailed IF and IVF info in bio.
1. The only meds that needed to be refrigerated for me was my trigger shot, everything else was fine at room temp. I did end up storing everything except PIO that can not be refridgerated since oil and cold are bad, in the fridge anyways since my house is pretty bright in the afternoon and my first IVF cycle started in August and there were some hot days. That was fine according to the label.
2. My surpression check is the morning of the night I should start stims.
3. For IVF #1 I triggered after 8 days of stims for IVF #2 I triggered after 9 days
4. PIO is not as bad as you are imagining. Do not ice before hand, all that will cause is the oil to get cold and not spread out evenly. If you are afraid of the pain, buy some origel tooth gel, spread that on wait a few minutes clean with alcohol and shoot. I never numbed the area and felt nothing though. Sometimes it would sting, but I think that is because we didn't wait long enough for the alcohol to dry. Once you give the shot, message the area for a few minutes and apply a heating pad. Your muscles will feel sore for a few days, but after a bit I start getting used to it.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

1. When you get your box of meds, which meds need to be refrigerated? Are they clearly marked? It was really clear which ones needed to be refridgerated in the instructions. You should definitely go by the instructions because people receive gonal-f and follistim in different forms and some need to be refridgerated and some don't. My refridgerated meds came in a special bag with a freezer pak so I knew which was which.
2. Once you are suppressed, when do you start stims? I started stims the night of my suppression check.
3. How long did you stim for? 11 days both cycles
4. Any tips for giving shots? I am dreading the PIO!!! The sub-q ones aren't too bad. You will be bruised by the time your ER comes, but I didn't find them to painful. My suggestions for the PIO are to ice up for a good 5 minutes before, keep the injection further to the outside of your hip because there is more fat there and it hurts less, and then have DH massage the area right after.
GL! The first day is the hardest and gets much easier after that.

1. Your meds will come with very clear instructions. The ones that need refrigeration generally come in some sort of cooler which makes it quite obvious.
2. It seems like you start stims either the day of suppression check or the day after
3. The first time I stimmed for 11 days, the second time for 8
4. No tips. My bum is terribly bruised right now

Mine came with a list, but none had to be refrigerated except for the Gonal-F once it was mixed. Some actually say room temperature or refrigerate. I was also on Menopur, Ganirelix, and Novarel.
2. Once you are suppressed, when do you start stims? So, for example if you are suppressed on a Wednesday, do you start that night or wait a couple of days?
I had my supression check on CD 0, the day I stopped BCPs, which was a Tuesday and I started stims that Saturday.
3. How long did you stim for?
I stimmed for 7 days
4. Any tips for giving shots? I am dreading the PIO!!!
The SubQ were easy - much easier than I expected. I did them myself. DH did HCG which was IM and that did not hurt when he did it, but the next day I was sore. I do not di PIO, but my 2 sisters have had to and they swear by icing it a few minutes before and then warm compress after as well as alternating sides.
?GOOD LUCK?
