This may sound dumb but I have the flu so I'll claim dumb today. How do you "dry up" the milk-makers. I am seriously considering stopping pumping but how do you dry up your bb's without getting a breast infection. TIA
So I was bfing at home and pumping twice while at work. I started with dropping the pumping, after a few 2 weeks, I dropped a feeding every few days. Finally after about 3 weeks, he was off. I was lucky and had no engorgement or mastitis.
I replaced one nursing session with a bottle every few days. Once she was using the bottle for all feedings, I would hand express a little if I could feel pressure to release a little. After about a week, they stopped getting full and returned to their normal pre-preg size.
First I just stopped pumping completely. I started to supplement DD with formula and only nurse in the morning and at night. My body just adjusted on it's own. After a week or so, I noticed that my breasts weren't hurting or getting full like they were before.
From there, I just stopped nursing in the morning and at night. I would just nurse if I felt uncomfortable.
Eventually, I just stopped. No issues, pain or infections. It was easier than I thought and I don;t think DD noticed the difference between my breast milk and the Enfimil.
I dropped a pump and got severe mastitis that landed me in ER. I have oversupply issues though. I am now going very slowly, apply cold compresses after pumping, use cabbage leaves (it does help!).
I was bfing at home 2x a day and pumping at work 2x a day. When I decided to stop I did so very slowly. I dropped one feeding per week. I went to only bfing morning and evening. Then I dropped evening figuring at least I would be home and when that went well for a week or so I dropped the morning. I weaned over 2 months because I wasn't sure if I would EP or wean. Good Luck.
Re: Ok if you have weaned your DC come in plz!
