feeling guilty for wanting to wean

my dd is 14mos old and i just found out im pg, she is still very much into nursing esp at night, even during the day since shes not been feeling well this week. i know i definately do not want to tandem nurse as bad as it sounds but i just dont think i can, so i think i should wean dd asap so she does not associate the new baby with her not getting my milk. any advice?

  • You don't need to be in a hurry to wean her.  Take your time and wait until she's feeling better.

It's likely she'll wean herself because of the changes to your milk and your supply because of the pregnancy.  But also, she has no concept that you're pregnant.  As long as you get her weaned before you are about 6/7 months pregnant she won't connect the end of nursing to the arrival of the baby.

DD was nursing 1-2 times a day when I got pregnant when she was 18 months old.  She dropped one session at 19 months and dropped the last at 21 months.  I didn't have to do anything, she just stopped asking to nurse.
