I don't think I washed anything until I was at least 37 wks. pg with DS (after both of my showers). I don't recommend washing EVERYthing because you never know what will fit and what your baby may never get around to wearing. You can return the things that have tags on them that they never get around to wearing either because they outgrow it so fast or they're bigger at birth than anticipated and never wear say NB sized things. Just a thought!
1st time w/ DD I washed everything ahead of time...and I was sorry I did. I could have re-gifted some stuff we didn't end up using..or could have exchanged for larger sizes. Oh, and another thing...you'll learn a lot for the first few changes what you like and dislike about outfits. Some people like snaps, others zippers, some just use gowns (easiest!). Some of those cute lil rompers are a major PITA to get on and off and the minute I get one of those now it goes straight back to the store or re-gifted.
If you are itching to wash stuff...the safest things to wash right now are a few side-button t-shirts, a few onesies, a few sleepers (only your fav's) and maybe a couple of hats/blankets.
I just washed all our gender neutral clothes over the weekend and put them away in the closet and dresser. We don't know what we're having - we didn't the first time either - so i just took it all out of the storage bins in the basement.
I might wait a bit for brand new stuff with the tags since you dont know what your baby will wear.
I started washing after my shower this past weekend. I can't just sit around anymore -- don't know if it's nesting or what. My goal is to get as much ready by the end of the month when I am at 36 weeks, and I still have a LOT to do.
Re: When are you washing baby stuff?
I'll probably start washing stuff in the first part of March once I am working part time. I'll be about 36-37 weeks then.
