Anyone elses LO a horrible sleeper??

My DD has been giving us a three hour stretch at night and then it goes down hill from there.  If we're lucky we'll get another two hours but then she barely sleeps during the day.  And to get her to go to sleep at any time of the day I have to bounce with her while walking around while holding a pacifier in her mouth.  She won't fall asleep in her swing or anywhere else for that matter.  And I have to make sure she's completely out before putting her down.  Anyone else deal with a similar situation?  Any suggestions on how to get her to sleep better and fall alseep without me constantly walking around.  It gets really tiring.

  • DS is like that.  He usually sleeps 3 hour stretches at night now, although last night he did a 5 hour stretch.  But I consider the 3 hours a vast improvement over how he was a couple of weeks ago, so I'm no help!

  • Yes, I had and have this issue with both of mine. And as soon as I lay my DS down at night he wakes right back up.  Do you still swaddle? Or even a warm bath at night before you try to lay her down.
  • Honestly DD was the same way at that age.  I had a hard time getting her to stay down for longer than 3 hours at a stretch.  I used to spend the 2nd half of the night with her sleeping on my chest.  It should get better as she gets older... are you swaddling her?  She will learn to put herself to sleep better as she gets older. DD still likes me to put her on the side and rock or pat her to sleep with her paci. I don't have to walk around though.  DD will pass out in her swing or car too.
  • Unfortantely, she hates getting a bath so this riles her up even more.  She is a tummy sleeper so we no longer swaddle.  I really hope it gets better because my arm feels like its going to fall off after carrying her around so much.

  • I don't know if I'm much help with the getting to sleep part - some tricks that usually work with DS include white noise - either a white noise machine or the bathroom faucett.

The napping thing, however, we're on board with.  DS was a terrible napper.  It really helped once we got him on a schedule.  His 10 minute naps started lengthening to an hour - hour 1/2 or so.  It was a bit of work (trying to get him back to sleep while we were getting him on the schedule was not easy or fun), but it's helped a lot.  There are still days when he takes short naps, but overall, he's much better.
