Okay this thing called "Solids"

Well as you expected i am confused.....surprise surprise right?

Anyway how do you know when during the day to introduce them? Right now AT is having 1tbl spoon of soupy cereal in the evenings. He seems to be going through a little growth spurt right now since he got over the ear infections and got his appetite back. He wanted to eat every 2.5 hrs yesterday.

My first try will be to up his bottles to see if that helps, but I also have no idea when he begins 1st foods in a couple of weeks how to go about mixing them into his day.

He is at DC 4 of 7 days and I want to make sure i start the routine with him first....but I just dont know how to go about doing it. Do we just try and offer after every bottle to see if he wants any or just at his brfast, lunch, and dinner bottles.

Any tips? TIA!

  • we started out with dinner feedings of just oatmeal.  Then we did dinner and lunch of oatmeal.  Then we gradually started introducing 1st foods (i started out with savory vs sweet) at dinner and then slowly worked those into lunch as well.  I dont mix his oatmeal and food, each is seperate.  Soon I will introduce oatmeal at breakfast and then work foods into it.  I dont know why we havent done breakfast yet except for the fact that the bottle is just so easy.  We are onto stage 2 now...we just switched to those after several months of stage 1.

  • I think most people start by offering solids at one meal each day.  We did dinner, since I wanted to feed him at home.  I gave him his bottle first, and then 30 mins later offered him solids.  Then after we got comfortable with that and he was eating well, I started sending him food to school for breakfast.  And then a few weeks later I started sending him lunch.  They did it the same way, 30 mins after his bottle.  You want to give him the bottle first, since his main source of nutrition should be his milk.

  • I started with offering solids at breakfast so that if she had an allergic reaction, I could monitor her throughout the day. ?We give her solids 1 to 1 1/2 hours after nursing (but she now nurses every 3.5-4 hrs). ?If AT is feeding every 2-3 hrs, you might want to offer solids 45 min to 1 hr after his bottle. ?We found if we gave Natalie solids too close to when she nursed (< 45 min) she would spit most of it out.
