I really wanted to EBF, but Ali lost so much weight (more than 10%) and was jaundiced that she needed the light blanket, so, with our doctor's recommendation, we've started giving her formula from a bottle to get her hydrated. She's doing much better, but I really want to to BF.
The problem is she falls asleep and is out cold. She didn't nurse for very long to begin with, just enough to be satisfied, and then she'd fall asleep, and we had very little success getting her awake to eat enough. I keep trying, but the same thing happens, so we're back to the bottle. I'm pumping to try to establish and keep my supply, and I really want this to work.
I'm going to contact the LC today, but I thought I'd post here because there's some great advice on this board without too much judgement. TIA.
Re: Any advice to get baby from bottle to breast?
Probably things you've already heard, but if you undress her a bit so that she's not so warm and snuggly, that can keep her awake longer. And frankly, if she's hungry enough, she'll stay awake to eat enough - you'll just be BF all the time, which is OK in the beginning.
The LC should be able to give you much more information. We were able to go from bottle to breast well from the beginning, but I had the same problem too with him falling asleep.
