I've been on bp meds most of this pg, its been slowly getting higher and today when I went to the dr. it was up to 146/90, I don't have protein in my urine so they don't think I have pre-e. They sent me to get a bunch of blood work done, and I have to go back in tomorrow to get my bp taken again. They were asking me question about how much time I spend working, etc. I'm a little afraid that they are going to put me on bed rest now. Do they normally put people on bed rest for high bp?
Re: High BP = bed rest?
Yup, they will, especially if they think that part of the reason is stress or activity associated with working.
FWIW, my dr told me yesterday that the bottom # is the one that they watch the most carefully. The top # can flucuate a lot more due to daily stresses, so if your bottom # is pretty steady, the won't be as concerned. If the 90 was a pretty big increase from your previous #'s then they'll definitely want to watch you pretty closely.
Here's my story-
Throughout my pregnancy, my BP was getting higher and higher. Prior to being pregnant my BP was always a seesaw between normal and high. On 12/18 (approx 34 weeks) I had been admitted to L&D for monitoring because of it. No protein was found. The dr. scheduled me for a growth u/s as well as weekly NSTs. He asked if I was still working; I explained I was a teacher and that I only had 3 more work days til break and that I wanted to work at least one week after break. He said I could work the 3 days but not any days after. After 2 NSTs (12/24, 12/31), an U/S (12/24), and one dr. app't (12/31), I was admitted to L&D once again because BP rose at dr. app't. Well I spent Wed-Fri in the hospital, had numerous tests done including 24 hr urine, only to have an induction (which turned into an emergency C-Section on Sat). I was 36w4d when I had my DS.
My advice- if bed rest is what you need, the doctors will tell you.
