so go ahead and flame away if you must...
A few days ago we were driving down the highway and hit a big bump. It was bad enough to throw me up out of the seat about 6 inches (and I'm heavy too). DD was strapped into her car seat so it isn't like she bounced and bounced really violently.
That's not enough to cause shaken baby syndrome, right? The force was enough to lift me so I just keep imagining her little brain bouncing up and hitting her skull. I know it is so stupid but I'm so full of irrational fears lately. Please console me! Oh God I feel dumb!
Re: Okay, I feel REALLY stupid even asking this
As long as she was secured in her seat properly she should be fine.
I do have to say that seems like a pretty irrational fear!! You need to take a bath or drink some milk and relax!
shaken baby syndrome is when a baby is violently shaken, not only does their brain colide with their skull it also seperates the brain stem from their spinal cord. I would have to say, NO, your baby does not have shaken baby syndrome. Also, babies don't get SBS in car crashes and those would be a lot worse impact on them. Those little buckets (car seats) we put them in do a lot more protecting then we al realize.
Sorry if that seemed rude at all, it wasn't intended to.
Also, how are Laura's hips doing?
I know, totally silly and irrational. I just can't help it. I was reading and article earlier today about shaken baby and how the brain damage is from it swelling from hitting the inside of the skull and I started to think about thad stupid bump and I've been worried about it since.
Thank you for putting me in my place and telling me that everything is going to be okay!
It didn't seem rude at all
her hips are good so far. we have to go back when she is 8 months for another x ray. Her left side looks better but they want to keep watching the right side. So far the only restrictions are nothing that keeps her suspended in a load bearing position. (walker, excersaucer, etc...) She is allowed to practice standing with us though. Thanks for asking!
