You wake them up to eat but don't totally rouse them. Pick them up, stick boob/bottle in mouth and let them eat and put them right back down to keep sleeping. Like baby goes to bed at 8- you dream feed at 11 before you go to bed and they will hopefully sleep longer since they ate at 11 even though they wouldn't normally wake up then.
Yep - the theory is that the sucking reflex/instinct is strong enough that you don't need to completely wake them, thus making it easier to get them back down. We tried it just to see what it was like one night (I woke up an hour before she would usually eat again) and it really did work for us.
Oh funny I do this every night at 10 or 11pm but never knew it had a name!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF
Re: what is dream feeding?
