How long for NT scan?

I will first start by saying I used google and looked back a few (read >10) pages, and no answer. How long did it take for your NT scan to be done? Ours is right by the beach and we'd like to take our dogs with us, but don't want to leave the pups in the car for too long.

Re: How long for NT scan?

  • I have mine on Thursday.  When I asked, they said to plan 30 minutes for the ultrasound, and then another 30 minutes for the blood draw (which is in a different location) so an hour total.

  • Our office told us the u/s will be a good 1/2 hr, then I have to have blood taken immediately afterwords.  This will be done in lab @ the hospital where our ob office is, which means about 1/2 hour wait depending on the time of day, sometimes longer.

  • Mine was done today and took maybe 30 minutes for the scan.  The blood draw took less than 5 minutes since it was in the same place.

  • It'll be too long for your dogs to be left in the car.
  • I'd agree w/everyone else that said 1/2 h...but that didn't include the time we spent waiting: they were running behind the day of our scan and had to wait longer than usual. Personally, I wouldn't take my dogs: you never know exactly how long it's going to take.

  • i was beyond annoyed at my NT scan because i got there 15 minutes early like they had requested on a full bladder- and they had me waiting an hour in the EMPTY waiting room (appt. was supposed to start at 1:30 and didn't get back there til 2:15)- then they continued to ask us if we really wanted to have the scan done and to pick which one that we wanted (made me nervous because i thought we had been through that with the doc)-

we signed more paperwork and then we went to get the scan done- i had a majorly full bladder by that point, and she had to get me to release it in order to get the measurements- the baby was in a non-convienent position apparently and they never even got the neck measurements (this process took 45 minutes)- they had me wait for the doctor to try which was another 15 minutes only for him to come in and say "sorry, we can't find it today"-

then the nurse couldn't find my vein for the blood (stuck me 5 different places before getting a winner!)

i got there at 1:15 and didnt leave until 3:45

so long story short, it's hard to tell if you get a competant tech and nurse, so it may be a risk to bring the dogs- i wouldn't bring them if i were you.

  • Mine took almost two hours start to finish including waiting, doing the scan and blood draw...I would not take the dogs with you.

  • I just got back from my NT scan--it took about 30 minutes.  We had fun looking at the baby moving around--not something I would want to rush.  The u/s tech pricked my finger to send in the blood for testing which was really fast.  I know some people have to go to the hospital for this.  I probably wouldn't bring the dogs.
