Fingers falling asleep

My fingers have been falling asleep since I've been pregnant--10 weeks.  It happens when I am blow drying my hair, talking on the phone, or have my arms bent/raised in bed, after about 3-5 minutes.  I don't know if it's when they are above my heart, or because my elbows are bent and raised, or a combination.

I asked my OB about it, and also my neurologist yesterday (I have epilepsy) and neither had anything to say about it.  Anyone else have it?  It's in both hands.

Re: Fingers falling asleep

  • i get it alot at night....i'll wake up and my hand or fingers will be asleep. more in my right hand than left. i think it's just the position and maybe a change in your circulation?

  • I had the same issue while pg with DS last year, especially at night. I'd wake up and my hands would be numb. I talked to my MW about it. She said it was normal - because there was more blood flow going to baby.

    P.S. Get a ticker =)

  • My left index finger tip has been asleep for a few months now.  One night my left wrist ached enough to wake me.

I read in the books that carpal tunnel can set in during pg and goes away after.  no worries

  • My pinky and half of my ring finger fall asleep when I sit certain ways (including when I have my arms bent/raised in bed) or when I lean on my elbow.  I was told it's a nerve that is being pinched in my elbow when it is bent certain ways.  Although, this started way before I ever got pregnant.
