Taking baby out

When are or did you start taking your baby out? I know I am not going anywhere for at least another week. When you did, what places did you go and what places did you avoid? I know it is a cold time of year, and sickness is going around, so I am torn. TIA!

I went to babies r us when she was 6 days old. I couldn't stand being in the house anymore! It did wonders for my sanity. I kept her in the carrier most of the time and made sure people did not get near her.

After that I guess we just mostly took her with us when running errands before our big trip to visit our families at 5 weeks.

First time was at four days for DD's well baby visit at the pedi, after that we took her to the grocery store and Target a few times after about a week, and then church at three weeks. We just put a hat on her and a couple extra blankets under the fleece carseat cover. Turns out she LOVES the cold air on her face! Also, we're BFing and I got a flu shot before she was born, so she's pretty well protected against colds and flu.

I get stir crazy when I am stuck in the house, so I ventured out to walk the baby at the mall at approx. one week. I did keep the cover to her travel system over her so she would be exposed as little as possible. I also took her with me to work at 4 weeks. So far, so good - she hasn't been sick yet. I do have to admit that I am a member of the school of thought that believes a child needs to be exposed to germs in order to develop their immune system.

We have taken her everywhere with us from day 1. Got 10 day pics taken at Sears - went to visit family at 2 weeks.

We have just been adamant about hand washing.
