I know people can go weeks being dilated and not going into labor, or not be dilated one day and go into labor the next. If you are effaced is it the same sort of idea, where it isn't much of a predictor?
Last week I was 90% effaced, 1cm dilated and the dr. said he could feel the baby's head, but I really don't think that means anything.
Re: Does effacement mean anything?
The only thing they told me was you generally efface first and then start dilating. However, I was 60% effaced and 3 cm dilated on Fri. They told me I'd go into labor over the weekend and here I am!
I do think it means you're getting ready, but not necessarily an indication of when you'll go!
