video monitor vs. Angelcare movement monitor

Which do you prefer and why?  I decided I did not want a video monitor after reading numerous reviews/stories about seeing another nursery on the monitor and the Angelcare seems highly recommended on here.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts and recommendations on either?  (And if you have a video monitor you like, which one?)

TIA

Re: video monitor vs. Angelcare movement monitor

  • I love the Anglecare. It really gives me peace of mind when I'm sleeping that I'm not sure you'll get with a video monitor b/c you'd have to keep looking at it. I know if DS stops breathing than the alarm will go off and we can race in there and revive him.
  • Loading the player...
  • we registered for and got the angelcare movement monitor.  by the time we went to set it up, DD was 3 mos old (she slept in her bassinet in our room up to them).  DD slept in her crib for a few nights w/o the monitor and we discovered that she moves a lot in her sleep.  she turns 180 degrees in the night.  that monitor would have gone off every hour or so, so we returned it and bought a regular monitor.  can't help you w/ the video info.
  • We were given a video monitor as a gift.  Turned it on and got a front row seat into my neighbors nursery.  We returned it the next day for the Anglecare monitor and love it.  It gives me great peace of mind when DS is sleeping.
  • i don't have any experience with the video monitor, we have the angelcare one. i am developing an intense hatred for this thing - it goes off 3 or 4 times a night for no reason. sometimes it's because she's moved to the edge of the crib, but mostly she's right where we left her and just sleeping deeply. then the alarm wakes us all up. not fun.

last night dd slept from 7-7, but i was still up 4 times because of the stupid monitor going off. thankfully it didn't wake her this time!

  • We have the Angelcare monitor and love it. The alarm has sounded twice because DS had moved to the corner of the crib. The sensor wasn't picking him up. Other than that, we've had no problems with it. Personally, I'd rather have a few false alarms than not have the monitor. I believe there's another monitor (Babysense, maybe?) that has a bigger sensor pad, but I don't know much about that one.
  • We have the Summer Infant handheld video monitor.  We have never had a problem with seeing anyone other than DS.  Sometimes I wish we had the Angelcare to esae the mind but I LOVE the video.  Also, it is so sensitive that I can hear DS breathing on it.  I can ever hear his clock ticking on the wall.
  • I like the angelcare monitor.  It really does give you peace of mind, which is great!
  • Thanks ladies!
  • I love the angelcare monitor. I wouldn't have slept that first couple weeks without it. No lie. And I really didn't think I would be a paranoid mommy! I slept about 6 hours in the first 4 days... total. Then we bought this and I slept fine!

I have never had a single false alarm. If you get them there are ways to fix it... and if you get a lot of them, like PP, you can exchange it for a new one. That has to be a defective model!
