Hi all, I'm working on a story about embarrassing things DH said or
did in the delivery room. I want to make this a dad-to-dad story, so if
you can somehow convince your DH to post his advice (uh hem, or his
mistakes), I would be so grateful! You can have him post below here or
email me at dpettinelli@theknot.com. Please make sure he includes his first name and your user name.
TIA,
Dara
Re: DH delivery room confessions
When your kid is crowning and the nurse says that he will probably have a conehead, dont yell, "we come from France." My wife was not happy.
Tommy (mamamoos' husband)
My husband didn't do anything embarrassing. The only thing he has to say is this:
I felt like such a wimp, especially when my wife was on the birthing ball in the shower for hours, and I was hunched over her for hours spraying the shower nozzle on her and rubbing her back, because the baby was facing the wrong way and she had back labour. At one point I stood up properly and stretched and thought to myself "I so wish I could go stand somewhere else, my back hurts so much" and I instantly realized what a jackass I sounded like and resolved not to even think about my uncomfortable back again. My wife did it all without drugs and I can't believe what she went through to have our son. I have so much more respect for her and for all women after being part of that experience. She didn't complain once and there I was, thinking about my hunched over back.
- Kelly, annabelle.27's husband
I was looking back and forth from my wife to our new daughter in the corner of the room and I heard, "We have placenta." At that point I turned to look (still not sure why I did that) and the doctor was holding up the placenta and placing it in a bowl. I was shocked and later said to my wife, "It looked like you gave birth to your stomach."
-Nick, wife of NicknSteph
I would probably just say to try not to say the exact same encouraging words over and over again. I repeated, "You're doing awesome!" so many times that my wife, in the middle of pushing, asked me to please find a synonym for awesome! How could I, it is an awesome and humbling experience.
