Reflux / meds question

DS was diagnosed on Saturday with having reflux.  They prescribed Prevacid and told us for the first couple of days, to give it to him twice a day then drop down to once a day.  It seems like he isn't spitting up as much now, but he still sounds really congested (dr. told me congestion goes along with reflux sometimes).  Does anyone know how long until that will start sounding better?  I'm so worried about all of this and about him being uncomfortable, etc.  I'm also really worried about him having another choking/gagging episode.  It just sickens me to think about it :(

    We could not find anything to help with the congestion until we were switched to Prevacid and Alimentum. He is still congested at times but I found that having his mattress elevated at night and using a humidifier nightly helps a lot. Hopefully with less spit up you will be hearing less congestion.

    DS has reflux and had congestion and choking episodes. (which is so scary, I know) The Prevacid really helped after 4 or 5 days. We also started thickening his feeds with cereal. He hasn't had any choking since.

    hello..i'm relieved to hear that others are having the congestion issue with the reflux.  I was worried DS was getting a cold. The Dr just started him on the Prevacid.  Does anyone have an easier way of giving this medicine?

    my son has reflux and sounds congested most of the time too. he is on prilosec...we have to vary how we give it to him (in a small bottle or straight from a syringe) because he catches on too quick and is talented at spitting it out.

    We have been on Prevacid for a month now and it just started working last week. I'm in the minority, most people say it works within a week. It has not helped with congestion and DS actually spits up more now than ever (silent reflux). But his pain is gone. He has never had choking episodes.
