Developmental/Milestone question

So M has been able to roll from belly to back for a month or more now, so I know she hit that milestone.  However, she doesn't do it a lot.  When she does it, it's deliberate, not on accident, so I know she's got the ability.  Should I be worried about the fact she doesn't do it often?

Re: Developmental/Milestone question

  • I am going to say no need to worry because Gabriel is the same way.  He can do it he just doesn't do it a lot.

  • Definitely no need to worry. Natalie was still inconsistent at her 4 month appointment and the pedi wasn't worried a bit.

  • truitt rolled 2-3 times at 3 mos and never again until 7 mos, didn't crawl until almost 9 but walked at 11. my dr said that once they know how to do it, it's really up to them if they want to keep on doing it. unless a child seems waaaay behind in milestones, you should not worry.

  • No, I wouldn't worry. Joe never really mastered tummy to back and he crawled long before he could sit up on his own. He took his first steps back in November and didn't walk until last week. (the books say they walk around 2-4 weeks after they take first steps) Every baby is different and they'll do the things they are motivated to do when THEY want to do them, not when some book says so.

  • I wasn't too terribly concerned - but now I won't worry at all!  Thanks mamas!
  • I wouldn't worry.  She probaly doesn't have a great need to do it that often.

  • Rena was the same way. She knew how to do it but just seemed fine playing on her back and not rolling over. I wouldn't worry about it at all...although I also was worried at the time.
