Orange County Babies

formula... sorry poop talk....

I am breast feeding and supplementing with Similac Advance... milk base..

DS has been fine with the combo... then last Tuesday I saw a little red in his poo... so I called the doctor and he thinks DS might be lactoes intolerant... and that we might have to switch to soy base...

so we did switch to Similas Isomil... and seems like everything was alright... well it wasn't like he was pooping blood all the diapers but just that once...

and now he hasn't pooped in 2days... so now I am really confused...

How can you tell if your baby is not likeing the formula?

also is it normal for the poop to be really runny? I know in the first month it was little grainy but now it's just runny... could by baby have the runs?

it's so hard to figure it out... DS is so calm and happy all the time that can't really think that he is having any problem...

Thank you ladies~

Re: formula... sorry poop talk....

  • The Isomil constipated DS, too.

I am not sure about the runny stool.  Was that before or after you changed formulas?

  • Loading the player...
  • we were on the isomil for a couple weeks and he became constipated :(

it is now on the runnier side since we are on alimentum.

  • is it mucusy? when my dd had funny And mucusy stools the pedi said it's and allergy to cow's milk. i had to cut out dairy which includes all soy products. my dd is 5 months now and i'm slowly introducing dairy but very small amounts. GL

  • now it has little seeds and DS had been getting little mucous in it as well... does this mean he is allergic to cow's milk? what do I need to do?

so Similac Sensitive is out as well?

  • yes mucous in stool means there is something he can't digest.  It is possible that you have too much foremilk and your baby is having trouble digesting the breastmilk with the enzyme usually found in hindmilk.  It is also possible that he is allergic to cow's milk's protein.  Know that 50% babies who are allergic to dairy is also allergic to soy, so try not to use a soy formula.  I think there is a hypoallergenic formular out there that is rice based or something.

Also most babies grow out of these allergies.  Dairy allergy is usually caused by immature digestive system.  Most kids grow out of it when they are 1.

  • DJ has a protein allergy so the alimentum is milk based but he is able to digest it.  allimentum is the hypoallergenic formula references above.
  • how long does it take for them to pass the food they just ate?

Javasun, i think you might be right, it might be that I have too much fore milk... since I am pumping and bottle feeding DS he is getting the whole fore and hind milk from both sides every time... and I am getting about 6 to 7oz every pumping.... so after reading some of the articles about too much breast milk, I guess I better try half breast milk half formula... who would have thought that it was the breast milk... but I really think that might be it... since he is mostly on breast milk....

    thank you ladies~
