So I sent my NY and NJ certifications to be reviewed and they still want me to take the Texas tests. Thats fine. But they said I was eligible to have an EC-4th certificate and a 4-8th certificate. I ideally want to teach jr. high so I am taking the test for the higher grades. My question is this: They said I would be a generalist 4-8 but I know most of these grades have subject specific classes. I could teach science in NY and NJ and that is want I want to teach here. However, it won't let me sign up to take the Science class. My friend who is a High School vice principle says she thinks that it will let me sign up for the subject tests once I pass the general test and that she thinks a jr. high may hire me with a generalist degree b/c I can technically teach more than 1 subject. Is that right?? She said that the only grade that probably wouldn't hire me without the Science test is 8th grade b/c that is a testing year. That's fine, I really want to teach 6th. I am trying to get all this done by August so I can start teaching.
I do have a one year temporary liscense while I take my tests, should it take longer. Will schools actually hire someone with the one year temporary liscence? TIA
Re: nbr: I have a question for TX teachers? (long)
I am not a teacher, but repost this on the local nest board. there are several teachers over there who do not hang out on this board:

if you're certified somewhere else, you shouldn't have a problem getting a job while you get your tx certification done, especially in a core subject area like science.
