I had to have this 2 hour Glucose Tolerance test this morning. I walked into work thinking ehh, I will go next door to the lab, Drink that shiit and then go back in 2 hours for my blood work..Yeah FAIL!!!!!!!!!

Apparently it only works like that when you are pregnant and getting the 2 hour GTT.

When you are NOT pregnant, like myself it works a little different. You draw your blood, then drink the shiiit, then every 30 minutes for the next 2 hours go and get your blood drawn again. Mind you, I have the shiitttiest veins in the world.

So I kept running next door inbetween patients, I felt crappy from all the glucose they made me drink. So the doc I work with said, hey why dont you go home when you are done at the lab so you can rest and hydrate before surgery day tomorrow. I said, I was fine and didnt need to leave and her answer was...Listen, I reallllly need you here tomorrow please, so just in case just go rest up.

You dont have to ask me twice, I was feeling fine but hell I will take a day off with my husband (he is off today)...Woot!!

Now I am bumping and then taking a nap!

Nice!

Last time I went to get bloodwork there was a pg girl in the office doing that test. I felt so bad for her, she ended up throwing up all over her purse while aiming for the garbage can below it (I was sitting right there and couldn't move it out of the way fast enough). Then she proceeded to curse out the nurse...I didn't feel as bad for her after that!

All I have to say is for those of you who never had to endure that test yet...Good luck when you get PG...It sucks!!!!!!! It is the worst thing, I would rather have a papsmear. It sucks Im not pregnant because it would be worth it but still...GAG!!

It sucks, I had to do one of those back in high school. I felt nasty from all the glucose! At least this time around when I have to do one it will be worth it!

But at least you got a half day out of it!

Nah, Im over it...I can get pissed at him but as soon as he snuggles me and says hes sorry, Im over it but thanks!!

I heard the 3 hour ones you can get done by IV so you dont have to drink that shiit.

Nope, all pregnant women get that test But I think for PG women you do a 1 hour GTT and if you fail that one then you have to do the 2 hour test.. They use it to test for gestational Diabetes..And well insulin resistance for us not pregnant women.

I had to do the 3 hour glucose test last month, and yes it did suck!! I got there, drank the stuff, had blood drawn, waited an hour, PIAC, blood drawn, waited another hour, PIAC again, blood drawn, waited the final hour, PIAC for the last time, and blood taken again!!! All this and the test was negative, which was good! I'm with ya girl - it did suck!

Really? You don't get that she was probably in a rage, after JUST finding out not only what her husband did, but that he had also lied about it? A lot of people in that initial anger say things, even to extremes, in anger. Once it settles down, they can think more logically. I don't think that is that odd.

ick. when i had that done, it was every 30 min for 4 hours. it was awful, they had to stick me 27 times that day because my veins suck. i hope you feel better soon!

Lyse, I just think that if I were that angry about something, it would probably take a serious heart-to-heart to get over it. No, I don't understand going from that level of rage to "being over it" with no interim. That, to me, is a drastic mood swing.
