PCOS and Pregnancy Success??

I have PCOS and have been doing a lot of research..but my head still wonders

I'm curious about your journey with PCOS:

1.Are you on meds to become pregnant?

2.What are you doing to become pregnant?

3. Have you ever been pregnant?

I just have so many questions for other people like me.. I would appreciate anything you have to say..

Re: PCOS and Pregnancy Success??

  • I am just starting out (first RE appt two weeks ago), but soulcysters.net and the PCOS bio/checkin (Tuesdays/Thursdays) have been great.

1.Are you on meds to become pregnant? Right now Provera (finished last week, I think today is CD1), then Femara. ?If my tests come back as insulin resistant, maybe metformin. ?2.What are you doing to become pregnant? ?Seeing an RE (my OB was a waste and I am lucky to have insurance coverage), trying to eat better and lose my abdominal fat (but I am in the "non-obese" category of PCOS, so weight loss is probably not an automatic fix - I was annovulatory when I was 20 lbs lighter too). ?

    3. Have you ever been pregnant??No. ?I've only been off BCPs for 6 months, and the Provera introduced my first period in that time, so no opportunity to get pregnant yet. ?

  • I'm curious about your journey with PCOS:  Our journey just started in December as that was when we got our official diagnoses.  But we had been trying since July 08.

1.Are you on meds to become pregnant?  Yes this is my first cycle on Metformin and Clomid in a few a weeks.

2.What are you doing to become pregnant?  I am working on losing weight, taking the medications and my vitamins and in general trying to be a healthier person.

    3. Have you ever been pregnant?  No.

  • I have PCOS...

    1. I am not insulin resistant, so I don't take metformin.  I do take Sythroid as I am hypothyroid.  I have taken Clomid and Follistim in the past.  We have been trying since June 2007.

    2. We are currently starting a cycle of IVF.  This will be our first attempt with it, although we had 3 failed cycles of IUI and injectables.

    3. I have been pregnant, but miscarried at 9 and half weeks.

  • 1.Are you on meds to become pregnant? - Yes, I don't ovulate without them. Right now I'm on BCP to clear out the follicles from my last cycle. I'm on metformin long-term, and  you can see the other meds I've done in my siggy.

2.What are you doing to become pregnant? - Right now? Waiting for my next injects cycle!

    3. Have you ever been pregnant? Nope :( But 2009 will be our year.

If you're looking for success stories, I'd suggest checking out the Success after IF board.

  • 1.Are you on meds to become pregnant?...Right now, no, b/c we are on a break after our third m/c. But we will be starting another treatment cycle (Follistim) at the end of February.

2.What are you doing to become pregnant? Details of our journey are in my siggy but here;s a little of the story: My last "normal" period (without any kind of meds) was when I was 18 (7 years ago). It was a spontaneous AF, as it had been 2 years before that since I had had a period. My body started going haywire when I was 16. I think most of my problems are due to get ONE depo-provera shot at 16.  We technically started trying in July '06 but because I never O or even get AF on my own, it was a moot point. We started seeing our RE in May '07. Did 6 rounds of clomid. Only O'd twice (once on 150mg and once on 200mg--both BFN).  My ovaries did not like clomid. Then we moved on to injectables (follistim) + TI and we have done 3 cycles and have gotten pregnant all three times (second was twins) but we have lost all of our babies.

    3. Have you ever been pregnant? Like I said above, 3 times with the help of Follistim+HCG Trigger+TI.

Good luck to you! PCOS is a real b!tch.

  • I'm unexplained, but one of my friends was diagnosed with PCOS and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in October.  She was very open about her treatment, so I'll tell you what I know from her.

Her doctor started her on Clomid.  She did that for 2 cycles and didn't get any results.  She did Femara next and got her first BFP on that.  Unfortunately, it ended in m/c about a day or 2 later.  The very next month she used Femara again, in combination with PreSeed, and cough medicine (though not for that purpose, she was actually sick).  Success again, baby stuck, and all done primarily through her ob/gyn.

I believe she saw a regular endocrinologist that didn't specialize in reproduction for some of her hormone imbalances.  Just a side note on that.

  • 1.Are you on meds to become pregnant? - Yes, I don't ovulate on my own at all.  I've been on 1000mg of Metformin since October.  I've done one cycle of 50mg Clomid.  I o'd that cycle, but didn't get pregnant.  My lining seemed a little thin, so I was put on Tamoxifen the next cycle.  No O.  Next week I'll be starting on Clomid 100mg and Menopur.  If my follicles look big, I'll get one shot of Ovidrel.  Let's hope this works!

2.What are you doing to become pregnant? - I'm actually trying to gain weight.  I'm about 120 lbs, but my RE wants me a little bigger.  I'm insulin resistant, so I'm trying really hard to eat low sugar and carb foods.

    3. Have you ever been pregnant? No.
