How to entertain a 3-4 month old?

She has started grabbing toys and even grabs at things on her play mat, but never lasts more than 5 minutes. We sing songs, do floor time, sit in the bouncer, have naked time on the changing table, walk around... but it never takes up an hour and a half to two hours we play before nap time. She also only naps 20-30 minutes so she is cranky all afternoon. I am losing my mind. Is it a phase during this age? Our house looks like a tornado came through it and I have 2 weeks worth of laundry to do!

Re: How to entertain a 3-4 month old?

  • Mine's a bit younger..she will use her activity mat for longer than your little one. One thing that works for 15 mins is her Tiny Love Symphony Mobile. I also carry her in a carrier so I can get things done.
  • Loading the player...
  • I also let her nap in the swing sometimes, so she can get a longer nap.  It makes her much happier!
  • I am in the exact same boat. I call it the circuit, we go from one activity to another. But he only lasts 5-10 minutes max. By the end of the hour and a half I am clock watching and I feel awful that I look forward to nap time. Our naps last only a half hour too and it usually takes me a least a half hour to get him to sleep while he screams bloody murder. I am hoping it will get easier.
  • Do you have the FP Rainforest Bouncer?  DD will play in hers upwards of 30 minutes some days.  She loves it!  Other than that, I don't really know what to tell you.  I usually tote DD from room to room in her bouncer when I have to get anything done so that she can play and I can talk to and provide her company.
  • I can usually get 30 minutes out of the activity mat. I just have to run and jump up and down like a moron every 5 minutes or so to keep them entertained.
  • If she has good neck control you could try a jumperoo or excersaucer.  My ds will play for a while in those but sometimes gets upset if i leave him so I'll just sit on the floor and fold laundry or eat or something.
  • Thanks girls. We do have a jumperoo but she is too short. Sometimes I prop a box or book underneath for her and she'll watch the lights but that doesn't last. I honestly think that if I laid her on her back on the floor and played with her the whole time she would be okay, but as sad as it sounds I just can't do this all the time.
  • We have the same problem. She wants me to entertain or hold her constantly. We have a circuit too. We have nakey time in the floor ( I have a waterproof mattresspad under a blanket if she pees and that lasts about 15 min. Then the bumbo with a tray and she plays there for about 5-10min. Then to the activity mat which lasts 10-15 min. then to the jumperoo which lasts 15-20 min. I dance with her and sing, read books, walk around the house and touch things like the leaves if the plants, the kitties, and anything else we finf. WE look out the windows and talk about the snow.
