Babies: 0 - 3 Months

what do you consider STTN?

DD sleeps usually 5-6 hours in a stretch. Last night she slept from 10pm-3:45, ate and then slept from 4:30 to 7:15 (she was in her crib with hiccups for like 25 min before falling back asleep).  It was also the first night in her actual crib!!!!  I was just wondering what you consider STTN.

  • me: straight through. Yet to have seen it.

  • I consider that a successful STTN! DD sleeps from 8-2 then 2:45-6 or 7. So, just one wake up per night. I have counted that as STTN for a month now.

  • SSTN = Sleeping Through The Night. No wake-ups. Why are there so many posts about this?
  • I consider 5 hrs straight sttn.  Congrats!

  • DD slept from 9 to 4 then ate and back to bed till 7 ate then woke up for the day at 9. I am really ok with this sleep schedule!!!
  • My DD sleeps from 10pm-6:30am, but I think anything from 5+ hours counts.
  • I consider STTN if I don't have to get up to replace a paci and if I wake up first.  I realize this is NOT what pediatricians consider STTN. Smile

Because the medical community defines sttn for an infant as 5 hrs. straight.  Other people define it as all night.

  • Medical definition is 5 hours.   My definition is at least 8 hours.
  • DD went to sleep at 8:30pm the other night and woke up at 1:30am.  That is not STTN in my book even though it was 5 hours.  If she had slept until 6am I would consider it STTN...even if she had gone to sleep as late as 10pm.  I consider it STTN when they go straight through the night.
  • DS sleeps from 7:30 until 5 or so, then gets up for a bottle and goes back til 8:30.  I consider that STTN.  I hate the 5 am wakeup but he goes down so early that I don't think I can expect much better.
  • I consider my son as STTN.  However sometimes he startles around 4ish, takes his ninnie and goes back to sleep.  However last night he did not do that.  In bed at 10 and up at 7 this morning.  And I had to wake him up.
  • I consider 8 hours, which is sometimes what DS does.. but to be honest his once a night feeding is amazing for me!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever!
