OK, I've read multiple posts on here about dogs eating their own poo, then vomiting it up. The other day, DH calls me and says, "Just thought you should know, YOUR dog just ate his own poop." When I got home Comet (my German Shorthair) starts making this god awful noise and his sides start flairing in and out, I know what's next so I run to get something to catch it, as this seems like a better alternative than trying to move the 65 pound heaving beast. He hacks, a very small amount of yellow brown comes out, filled with hair. WTF? Has he turned into a cat?
So today, to make matters worse, I get home, DH has been gone for a few hours but the back door is unlocked, I call him, he says, "Oh, I was probably distracted, YOUR dog was eating hair again, I had to get a papertowel..." Just a few minutes after hanging up with him I see Comet running around, squatting every few seconds then turning and looking at his butt like something is chasing him, oh no...
There it is, a piece of poo, hanging from his butt by stands of hair. Damn it. I go get a paper towel and take care of it (I will spare you the details), what is wrong with these animals? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, he does scavenge the bathroom garbage can for Q-tips to eat, and god forbid you are cleaning your ears because he stares longingly at them, am I going to have to hide DC's diapers or snot sucker?

My dogs do the same thing
It's soooo disgusting! Over the weekend DH and I were lying in bed watching a movie and he said, "Oh no, one of the girls just got sick" and then he gets up and goes to check on them (their crate is in our bedroom). I was relieved that he took care of it because as soon as the SMELL came my way
I felt like I was going to be sick.
I love our animals but I really wish that they had some... common sense?
(ie: don't eat your own poo!) LOL
:: raises hand:: my dog does it too.....
She has started to dig in the litter box for that poop.
Our cat will eat to much and get sick... I don't like cleaning hers up.
I have had to help our poor dog out when her poo is stuck. She likes drier sheets.... She looks so helpless.
I'm glad I'm not alone w/the poo eating dog.
Dogs can be pretty gross. It is a really bad habit that they pick up and unfortunatly is really hard to break. I would just try and pick up after him as soon as you see it. If there isn't any to get a hold of maybe you will get lucky and he will stop doing it. GL.
my dog raids the bathroom all the time and this same exact thing happens- we try our best to keep the door closed, but some male in our house leaves it open from time to time (ahem...dh)... she gets to the trash can often and ingests toilet paper, and often times, hair.... the way you described her chasing her ass (my dog is a rottie- so there is no tail haha)- made me giggle!
i, too, have had to run for the paper towel and she knows the procedure by now (she sits very nicely and awaits me to "fix it")- drives me nuts! when she gets in the trash can, i verbally reprimand her and remind her that late i will be picking it out of her ass! not to mention, she threw up one time, all the toilet paper that she had eaten in one big clump- it was narly.
