1st Trimester

Anyone w/ a diagnosed blood clotting d/o?

Prior to PG, I was diagnosed w/ Factor II Leiden Gene Mutation. I am going to see my OB/GYN tomorrow and then will probably be monitor by Perinatologist. I had a consultation back in Sept w/ the Perinatologist when we started trying. Anyone on Lovenox which is what I will begin taking? Just curious - had a few questions.

Re: Anyone w/ a diagnosed blood clotting d/o?

  • Hello,

I am factor V positive and my protien S levels are high. so I also will be on lovenox/heprin. I went to the dr. at 4 weeks she wont start me on the meds until week 8. I am not looking forward to it since it is shots twice a day! So as long as she will let me hold off I will. I prob will not be reffered to any specialist but just be closly monitored.

  • I work for a hematologist, and we see OB patients with bleeding and clotting disorders.  Factor Leiden mutations included.  I wonder if you won't need to be seeing a hematologist.  I hope everything works out for you!

  • Thanks ladies for the quick responses. I thought I remembered the Perinatologist telling me it would be around 6-8 weeks before they started the Lovenox shots. I am going in tomorrow to meet w/ the OB/GYN to confirm pg and see what she wants me to do. The Perinatologist recommended back in Sept for me to be monitored by his office. I have been monitored by the Hermatologist which has kept me off blood thinners until this point.

I agree - I am trying to hold off on those shots until I absolutely need to...urgh...all for the health of me + baby :)!

  • I have Lupus Anticoagulant.  I am on Lovenox once a day until 36 weeks and then I will be switched to Heparin twice a day.  I started the Lovenox with my first pregnancy at around 12 weeks, but I started just before 6 weeks with this one.  I had no problems with my last pregnancy and I had an epidural and a c-section.  If you have any questions...ask away!

  • I have the Factor II Gene Mutation also. I started on Lovenox shots once per day at 4 weeks. I will see my hematologist once per trimester until I deliver. Two weeks before my due date I will switch to heparin then will go to Lovenox or Coumadin after I deliver for 6 weeks.

The Lovenox is not all that bad. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

  • You have all already answered my questions just by sharing your experience w/ when to start the shot and how often you get monitored. I might have more after my appt tomorrow so I will make sure I keep this post for further info/questions! Thanks again ladies!
