My mother in law tells me that we shouldn't get pine b/c it's too soft and the baby will chew on it and leave marks, eat through it, who knows. (Can you tell I'm getting frustrated with this whole thing) ![]()
Does anyone have a pine crib that they can comment on? Would you buy it again? Target has a graco lauren dropside convertible crib for a great price.
Thank you!
Re: Are pine cribs not a good idea?
I think most cribs made today (even among expensive brands) are made with pine. I wouldn't worry about it too much; just know that it does mark up easier than harder wood. I think we can all count on our furniture being marked up in some way, whether we try to prevent it or not. I don't think our crib is pine, but it already has cat scratches on it (as well as the dresser) from the cats jumping up and off of the furniture....grrrr. ?
If you put a teething rail on the edge, that will reduce the teeth marks. Our crib won't fit a typical teething rail, but the saleslady said we can get some of that soft clear plastic (maybe pvc?) piping at a hardware store and cut it lengthwise so that it slides right over the rail. Hopefully we can find a solution for us.?
Try not to worry too much about what it's made out of as long as it seems sturdy. Like I said, a lot of furniture is now made out of pine. Sometimes the finish hardens it up some so it doesn't mark up as easily, too.
