Period like cramping BUT I'm

between periods?! Off and on for the past week I have had cramping in my lower stomach that feels exactly like menstrual cramps. TOnight they are the worst they have been. THe problem is that I just got over my period a little over 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't say I"m doubled over in pain, but it's very uncomfortable. Anyone else experience this? What was it from? (The liklihood it's pregnancy related is slim-I have an IUD which I've had for 9 months).

  • Is your IUD copper or a hormonal one? I know some women have nasty cramps with the hormonal IUD.

  • Hormonal I believe... Merina. That's true the first few months after having it inserted, but not this late. I know that for a fact b/c I just talked to my OB/GYN about it on Monday. I mentioned mild cramping and she thought it was maybe gastrointestinal related, but I didn't make a big deal about it at the time... I've had cramping almost every day since I saw her though :(

I have a friend who has Mirena, and she had spouts of terrible cramping for the whole first year.

    It really may be that.

  • Have you checked for the strings? If you can't feel the strings you could have an iud expulsion. Did the OB/GYN exam your cervix to make sure the iud was still in the correct place?
  • could you be ovulating?  I had some painful ovulation cramps

Nevermind, I see you have an IUD......

Yep, that was the reason for my appt on Monday. I had mild cramps last week so I called her. They told me to see if I could feel the strings. I couldn't so I went in on Monday. She examined me and said everyything looked fine, it was still there, the strings were just moist and stuck to my cervix. I still to this day can't feel them though (i have never been able to).

You still ovulate when you have an IUD I believe.  No, it can't be ovulation, as I mentioned I've had this off and on for over a week.

maybe the strings are irratating your cervix which are causing the cramps... I would give her another call tomorrow and tell her you still can't feel the strings and the cramps hadn't subsided. I know that cysts are common when you have the iud and that the cyst will useally go away on its own. I hope the pain feels better for you soon.
