If you did professional, outside pictures ($$$)

If you had someone follow you around for a couple hours, taking pro pics of your family, how much did that cost you?

I'm just trying to get an idea of what's reasonable for the shoot fee and the cost of the pictures.

Thanks.

  • We did $350 for 1.5 hours...that didn't include the cost of the photos we purchased.

  • I am not much help since one of my friends husbands did ours for us.  (He charged us $50 for 2 hours and I ordered all my prints myself on Shutterfly.

    Around here though, the going rate is about $275 for 2 hours and then like $25 per picture they print out.

  • Just looked at her website...photos were about $35 each for 5x7 and under, $50 for 8x10.

    It was pricey, but she was really good. I am hoping we can use her again soon. Definitely not something to spend on every few months, though :)

  • Okay, I found one person who is $175 for 1-3 hours, but then the prints START at $40 each.  I thought that was expensive.  Or an album for $995 (which I thought was totally outrageous).

  • I paid $106 for the session --- and $300 for the disc (so I could print what I wanted, where I wanted).  I had the option to order prints from the photographer however I would have EASILY ordered over $300 so it made sense to buy the disc.
  • She was just getting started and it was $300 with a CD.  The girl I really wanted to use was $650 with a CD.  Neither one included any prints.  MH said no way to the $650.  BUT, her pictures were amazing!

  • A good photographer will run about $200-$300 (at least) for a sitting fee, and prints are usually at least $35-$40 for a 4x6 and up.  Expensive but worth it, and if it's much cheaper, they probably aren't that good!  Buying negatives for the person we used was $3000.....so yeah, didn't go that route.
  • $500 including a CD of our pictures (about 80 pics).

  • I spent $350 in 2007 to use our wedding photographer, and this year we used a friends wife (who is professional) and she only charged us $40...a pre-baby gift!
  • $800

    3 hours (not including travel between location) 3 locations. Park, Zoo and our old home.

    she also came to our home the next day to take pictures of the kids in our claw foot bathtub in our old house.

    no CD... that includes 1 wall mounted canvas and the rest was mainly 8x10's.

    MIL paid for most of it. We paid like $300 so DH didn't kill me.

    That sounds pretty reasonable for your area.

    Even the album (to me) sounds actually cheap. Our albums are over $1000 normally.

    ditto this.

    4x6 = $35

    5x7 = $40

    8x10 = $58

    the canvas print (11x16) was a gift from MIL and I don't know what she spent on that.

    DH still cringes when I mention another family shoot. Maybe I should take a bat to his KISS poster in my living room?!?!?

  • this was in aug 07 and her prices have more then doubled since then. session $85 and then I bought the cd for 100 and then a few prints from her for minimal price bc if you bought the cd she lowered the print price. now she is 150 per session and does not offer the cd w/o a 50 print purschase. i wanted to use her again this yr but we couldnt afford it,s o hopefully this summer!

  • Our photographer only cost us $75 for the sitting fee (1-3 hours - we used her for 2) and her prints range from $15-90, depending on size/quantity.   She's a newer photographer (she's been working professionally for about 2 years), but she does a great job.  Charlotte was a mess during the whole session b/c she had a cold and was fussy, but I was amazed at the great pics the photographer got, including the one in my siggy.

  • We only did pictures of Alissa, and the photographer we used is just trying to make a name for herself, so our fee was way below that would normally be charged.

    She does have her prices listed on her site though, so you can take a look to get an idea on cost. The pictures in my sig are a few of the ones she did.
