Adoption

Focus on the positive

We often come here to vent about the negative reactions. ?I thought it was time to include the positive reactions that maybe we weren't expecting from friends and family...

?I received the book "Twenty Things Adoptees Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew" for Christmas. ?My SIL (who has always been supportive) asked to borrow it. ?She wants to read it and have an understanding of the Adoptees point of view. ?I was so touched by this.

My other SIL, who generally keeps her sentimental side under wraps, told me a few weeks after we made our announcement to her over the phone, that it's all she had been thinking about and she was so excited for us. ??

We've had the insensitive and downright rude comments as well, but these positive ones are the ones I will always remember. ?The others will see the light eventually :)

  • I have to say both sets of our parents are super supportive of our decision and that is such a blessing. Especially my MIL she wants to read books and learn more and more all the time. It is something I cannot say how wonderful it is to have an "intelligent" conversation with a family member.
  • I totally agree about having supportive family members. While we are at it with the positives. I found out yesterday that our journey has helped some close family friends. The daughter was adopted and hearing our ups and downs has allowed her to more fully understand what her parents went through to bring her home. That brought a smile to my face.
  • That's really great! :-)

  • That's great!  I have a really great group of supportive friends - and our families are really trying to learn more - and the effort they are making is making us really happy.  Thanks for sharing !
