EOB (insurance ?)

I just signed up for new insurance in December with my new employer.  I could have done it earlier, but my HR guy is a dweeb.

Anyway, my new insurance states that specialty visits are $40 copay.  Whenever I went to the RE or OB with my old insurance, that had the same copay, I paid $40.  I go to the new RE, and I get my EOB and I am being charged the full $240.

Can I argue that this was a specialty visit?  Their reason on the back of the EOB said "no infertility coverage".  I know, I know.  I should have called and checked, but I was so darn excited about this new doctor.  I don't mind paying through the nose for procedures and imaging, but the standard visit is another world.  Jeez.

Are you sure you don't have speciality vists with diagnostic procedures covered? I dont have IF coverage either...but they will cover the RE visit and any diagnostic procedure like b/w, initial u/s,..possibly a HSG.  They wont cover fertility meds of any kind....and probably not the monitoring when I take Clomid (extra b/w and u/s).

Also...it depends on what the RE office coded your visit.  Do you know what ICD-9 code they used?  Mine used 'evaluation' and therefore SHOULD go through no problem (will wait and see my EOB).

I would call your insurance, if it says no infertility, I don't think they consider infertility to be a specialist.  I also have the problem with infertility coverage, and no matter what the reason/visit/prescription, if it came from my RE, they consider it infertility.  In fact, my RE is awesome and tells me to go to my ob/gyn for easy things like a pap or culture, std testing, etc, cuz if he did it, I pay full price, if ob does it, no charge.  Insurance is ridiculous!
