Sippy Cup ?

Hi All - So, I know I have an older DS, but its amazing the things I don't remember!

When did you introduce the sippy cup?  My boys just turned 8 months so I think its too early, but I got very cute ones for Xmas and wondering when I can pull them out!  :)

 Thanks!

Re: Sippy Cup ?

  • We started around 9 months, just to show them so they would get the hang of it.  I have no idea if this is too early or not.

  • around 9mos i gave DS water in one - just to play with sort of.

I slowly started to give him one of his formula bottles in the sippy (started with morning one b/c that's when he's most hungry)... did just that one for a few weeks... then added in the lunch one, then the evening one until he was all sippy.

we also used the Nuby sippies first - b/c they are similar to bottles- it was a good way to transition to "real" sippies with harder spouts.

  • I waited until they were 12-13m old & we were trying to simultaneously wean them off of bottles/formula...I do not recommend this! ?If I had it to do over again, I'd start earlier. ?That way, they'd be comfortable w/drinking from a sippy BEFORE losing the bottle. ?I think that trying to do it all at once was a little too traumatic for everyone involved. ?Good luck!
  • I read in all the books that you are supposed to introduce them early. I have a couple with soft spouts that I let the girls try to use (they aren't too successful). I was originally going to give them water in sippies, however if they don't start drinking out of them by 6 months I might do water from bottles.... I think I may be doing it too early though.

  • We just started recently at 8 months offering it with water during solid meals.  They are just starting to get the hang of it, but still play with it alot more than actually drink from it.  We are using the Munchkin soft spout with handles.  They didn't understand the hard spout one at all.
