I just started feeding my four almost five month old rice cereal and I was wondering if anyone else has heard of putting something a little sweet in it to get her to eat. My sister suggested maple syrup...but I'm just not sure about putting something so sweet in her cereal. Thanks!
Re: getting my four month old to eat cereal....
I wouldn't do it - you're not supposed to flavor baby food otherwise they will only eat the sweet stuff! ?Are you adding BM or formula to it? ?That might be a little sweeter than just water and give her something she is used to tasting. ?How long have you been trying?? ?It takes a few weeks for them to get the hang of it. ?Don't force it and just keep trying even if she just tastes it and spits it out.
We just started on rice cereal this week (will probably do avocado next) and my baby pretty much just spits it everywhere! ?Right now it's just for practice...?
No way! If she won't eat it, try another single-grain cereal. There is nothing magical about rice. She might like oatmeal better (my son does). If she isn't ready for it, that's a different story. You shouldn't have to sweeten things for her at all. Does your sister even have kids?

Wait until 6 months! I had no trouble getting my little guy to eat but it was a few days after his 6-month check-up.?
I was EBF until then but mixed the gerber oatmeal with equal parts formula and he loved it. The intestines mature slowly so there is no reason to rush into solids.
