Since I have not had my 1st appt yet, I have not asked or checked with insurance yet. We did not opt for it with ds, but I think we will do the 1st tri screening this time. Thanks!
My doctor told me last week that the bloodwork for cystic fibrosis usually isn't covered and runs about $300.
The AFP bloodwork for detecting down's syndrome and neural tube defects is usually covered.
My Dr. doesn't do the NT Scan u/s routinely unless the AFP comes back abnormal.

$875 for the scan and bloodwork that make up the first trimester screening. Part of that is the genetic counsler. My insurance covers it though. FWIW, a regular u/s is about $350-$400 at my drs. office. They do offer discounts on routine u/s if your insrance wont cover them. Since mine does I am not sure how much of a discount is offered.
I'm not asking to pry, but are you planning to terminate if something should come back wrong or do you just want to prepare yourself?
If you don't plan to terminate why not wait until your 20 week u/s (assuming it will be covered) and then you'll have all your answers for free?
I like to be prepared. If something fatal came back, yes, I likely would terminate. Something not fatal, likely not, but at least you would know. But the reason for considering the NT is that a close friend did the NT last fall, and it came back that the baby had not, and would never, form a skull, and had zero chance of survival outside of the womb. Finding that out at 12 weeks versus 20 weeks is a world of difference. I just cant get their situation out of my mind.
Re: If not covered by insurance, how much did your NT scan cost?
I had mine at a specialist office...in another hospital. It cost us 60 bucks
