1st Trimester

Highlighting?

I just wanted to see what you girls thought about highlighting.  My hair looks like hell already because I didn't know I was going to get pregnant.

Full color I definitely would never do, but highlighting doesn't touch the scalp so maybe this is ok?

I just need your opinions on what you are doing.

Thanks!

Re: Highlighting?

  • Some doctors say no, others say it's fine.  I would probably wait until you're out of the 1st tri.

  • Exactly what Brownie said.

Personally, I will be highlighting my hair this spring like I always do. :)

  • I did toward the end of the 1st tri.

  • You should ask your doc, too, but mine said any hair color is fine that doesnt "soak the scalp". So highlights, foils, etc. I assume are fine. I dont plan on highlighting mine just b/c its gotten so dry lately I'm afraid it would make that worse for me.
  • I did full colour before I was 6 weeks and again at 13 weeks. My doctor said that was fine.
  • OMG mine looks like HELL too!!!!   I am still going to wait until the first Tri is over.
  • I won't be highlighting until 2nd tri. And I need it bad.

  • If I do it at all, it won't be until after first tri.  We also went ahead and replaced many of our household cleaners to chemical free cleaners... we were in the process of making green changes to our home, but this pregnancy is all the more reason to avoid those terrible things!

  • My dr. said I could only do mine once during pregnancy and it had to be after 1st trimester.  That is going to kill me!!
  • I did it with DS #1 and had no issues...

  • Mine says it is fine to color your hair. ?The fumes may make you sick, though.
  • My Dr said it's ok to color your hair after the 1st tri

  • My hair stylist, who recently had her 4th child so she's concerned too, said that the whole "touching your scalp" thing is a total myth and most of the colors used today are very different than years ago.  Still, she said as long as you're not snorting the fumes and it's well ventilated you're fine.  I've done everything from blond highlights to dark brown all over color (what I have now) and am still deciding what I want to do after 1st tri. I may just go back to blond highlights for my own peace of mind.
  • My doc said hair color was ok, doing mine today.
