Acupuncture around ET?

I like acu but obviously the cost adds up and the driving an hour just for acu is getting old.  But I want to do everything I can to make this IVF work since it is likely to be our only shot at it.  When do you do acu around and after ET?  My acu wants to do a pre-transfer the day before but hasn't said anything about after.  I'm just trying to get an idea of how many more times I should expect to go.

Re: Acupuncture around ET?

  • My acupuncturist comes to my clinic the day of ET and does a treatment before and after.  Duing our most recent IVF cycle (I am 6dp5dt) I did a treatment 2X a week, day of ER and ET.  I am also had a treatment yesterday.  I do think it assists and has made a difference in my response this cycle vs my first IVF and FET.  I have been doing acu 2x a month from June until now.

That being said if it stresses you out driving there etc...it may not be worth it.  My acu's office is 10 minutes from work - between b/w & u/s extra appts can be stressful.

  • We are not doing our first IVF cycle until April, but my acu has said that we would have 1 session the day before transfer and then one right after on the day of tansfer.  Hope this helps!
  • My acupuncturist did it for 25 min before I went to my transfer then after the transfer I went back and did 25 more min.  2 on the same day.  I'm still in 2ww.

BBLindy, did you do acupuncture while you were on BCPs? I started acu on my 1-cycle break. Did three treatments and now I'm on BCPs for a few weeks. Seems silly to try to stimulate my ovaries while the pill is de-stimulating them...I will be asking my acupuncturist about this but thought I'd ask you as well.

  • The literature supports getting acu right before transfer and right after. ?My acu wouldn't come to the RE office to do this for me so I used the one contracted with my RE office. ?But I went to my regular person for all the other appointments. ?Seriously I think it was worth it. ?Oh and I haven't gone back since after the post transfer treatment.

  • My acupuncturist does pre-transfer 12-24 hours before and post within an hour after.

They also recommend 9 treatments leading up to transfer and treatments 2 and 4 days post transfer.
