2nd Trimester

Just took the 1-hour glucose test!

I kept hearing things about how so many people *hated* doing this and how awful the drink was, so I was nervous.

It was a piece of cake!

The drink is not big, mine was orange flavored and it tasted like a sweet gatorade.  It was also iced cold.  You have to drink it within a couple of minutes.  It's seriously not as big a deal as everyone made it out to be.

Then you sit around and 1 hour later you have some blood taken.

That is it.

There were like 3 other pregnant women doing this too.  One of them was doing her 3-hour.  One other person was complaining up and down about the whole thing to her husband, gagging on every sip of the stuff.

I really don't see what the big deal was.  Honestly I thought the drink tasted kind of good! LOL

Re: Just took the 1-hour glucose test!

  • Glad it went well! And I'm glad to hear it wasn't so bad: I just scheduled mine for next month and it's the first doctor's appt. that I'm kinda not looking forward to...probably b/c it requires me to do a little more than just show up! =) ?Well, that, and I usually eat small meals every few hours so the idea of waking up and not having anything to eat until I get in for my appointment is kind of daunting...I'm just hoping I don't feel too shaky by the time they're ready to see me.

  • Yeah I hear nothing but BAD stuff about the drink. As long as its like you say, "Ice cold and tastes like a sweet gatorade" then I will like it.
  • i just had mine done on thursday. the only bad thing was chugging it cuz it was carbonated & i had to force myself not to burp infront of everyone in the waiting room haha
  • Thanks for posting this.  I take mine next week and was kind of concerned b/c of all of the bad things I've heard about them.
  • With my 1st PG I had the orange and it wasn' t bad.  When getting my 1st trimester blookwork done someone else was in for the glucose test and they asked her what flavor she wanted.  The tech said the orange was the best of the choices.  My advice is to ask for the orange and make sure it is cold.

  • thanks for this post.  i go for mine next week and have been really worried about it.  more because i'm terrified of having my blood drawn and the lab i have to go to is absolutely terrible ( i went down hard when they did my first set of blood work) but it's still comforting to know it's not as bad as everyone says.
