stroller fit classes?

Anyone attempt to do stroller fitness classes (stroller strides or similar) with twins?  I really need to get out more and get more exercise and I'm thinking about doing this... but it's expensive and I'm worried that the babies wouldn't make it through the class without getting fussy... any experiences with this kind of class?

Re: stroller fit classes?

  • I did Stoller Fit for a couple months when the girls were young.  There were actually a couple twin moms (including one with 16 month old twins in a stoller and a 3 month old strapped to her chest).  The class I took was surprsingly intense (lots of running, stairs, push ups, toning).  I don't know if that's all Stoller Fit classes or just my particular instructor.

My girls were great through the class - they either slept or looked around.   There are some interactive exercises where you sing or make faces at your babies.  And there are parts where you run off for a bit (a couple of minutes), and the instructor stays with the kids in the stroller and blows bubbles or otherwise entertains them.  At the end of class, we did ground work and most moms had big blankets where they'd sit their non-movers (some would bring bumbo seats) and have some toys handy.   For the older kids, the instructor had a big bucket of toys that the kids would play with.  Most of the kids were happy for most of the class - but nobody thought twice about attending to their kids when they needed it (breastfeeding, diaper changes, otherwise making a crying child happy).

I ended up quitting b/c the time messed up the girls' nap schedule.  But it was definitely a good class and a nice way to meet other moms.

My instructor offered the first class free - so you might see if that's available for you.

  • i did a trial class when i was on maternity leave with DS - i really liked it, but it was SMACK in the middle of one of his feeding times (he was on a really good schedule) and I hated to spend money to end up spending 1/2 the time feeding him and missing the exercise- so i didn't join.  Had it been at one of his nap times I would have done it no problem- b/c he'd just nap in the stroller.

he did enjoy it, too - he was awake the whole time.

I'm going to give it a try with the twins and see how it goes time wise.

  • I take a Stroller Fit class twice a week. It's enough exercise that I get a workout and enough interaction that the girls don't get fussy.  They seem to enjoy the classes so far.  I'm the only twin mom.  The only time it gets tough is at the end when we do floor exercises and we take the babies out of the stroller.   They are all over the place and I end up chasing after them but that's fine.  It's worth it to get out of the house and get a little exercise at the same time. And I don't think I have it worse than the singleton moms who have to chase after their babies;)

Can you try a class first to see how they like it?  Most will offer you a trial class for free.
