We started our journey to find us a home and found one that we loved rather quickly. Unfortunately, someone else loved it too and was willing to pay more for it than we were. We were outbid by exactly $2000 which sucks. Now I guess it's back to the drawing board. We've fallen off the horse and have already begun to look again. One of the houses that was a finalist I went back and looked up again today and the price has been reduced by $5000 in just a few days (we saw it at the last price on Wednesday). We have put it back on our list, but the things we didn't like before, we still don't like. It has ZERO backyard and the kitchen is too small with only an eat in area and not a separate dining room. It needs new carpet but the master bed is pretty big with a walk in and full bath. I just can't seem to get past the lack of a backyard and the crappy kitchen. There is nowhere to expand to make a bigger kitchen either. As far as the yard goes, James will eventually need space to play and the area they are calling a fenced in backyard is more like a fenced side yard (or square of grass as I like to call it). What to do? We have some other homes that we want to see, but this one was already on the list and we already know that we kind of like it. Part of me feels like I should just suck up the backyard and kitchen issue because the house is priced so well, but...
I guess I just wanted to hear myself talk it out. I am really upset about losing the last one, but I knew it was a possibility (it doesn't make it suck any less though).?
Re: Boo, we didn't get the house
Aw, sorry you didn't get the house you loved. Boo.
Honestly - I wouldn't "suck it up" with the house you're not totally happy with. If there's not room to expand and you're already not happy with the kitchen and yard - I would keep looking. You will find something you love, even better than the first house! We looked for almost 2 years before we bought our house. There were lots of "almosts" in there that had one or two flaws that were dealbreakers.
It is a great time to buy now, you have that going for you! Have fun house shopping!
That stinks.
You never know though, just be patient & maybe you'll find something even better. It happens all the time! We ended up saving about $30k b/c the place we originally wanted was sold to someone else.
Sorry! That sucks. It happened to us before we bought this house. Someone put a clause in their contract saying no matter what we offered, they would top it.
Good news, 2 weeks later, and for a lot less money, we owned this house, which has a finished basement, a big backyard, and was considerably less money--as State Farm was selling it (a State Farm agent had lived in it--they were transferring him). Don't lose hope--your dream house may be the next one up.
Much love, Jill
