1st Trimester

A little something I have learned about snark....

So I am fairly new to the bump and I will admit that when I first came on here I was surprised at some snarky responses that I got to questions that I asked....I think one of my first posts on GP read something like this, "my husband I haven't been using protection for the last month, this month I have sore boobs, and I got a bloody nose and I am tired, could I be preggo??"...yes, I used the word preggo...and of course you can just about imagine the responses I got.  And I was completely offended that ppl responded with snark.  Fast forward after a few months of mostly lurking and I can certainly see random posts like this from newbies get annoying.  I also have been on the first tri board twice since I had a previous m/c.  And it is amazing the amount of stupid questions that get asked, OVER, and OVER again.  It does get annoying, and I very much enjoy it when the questions get snarky responses because it keeps things interesting.  How many times does someone need to write, "is is safe to eat lunchmeat, or can I dye my hair" when you can look back in previous posts and clearly see 100 similar ones all with clear responses.  Or use google to answer the question, or ask your dr.  So, in closing (and then I will step off my soap box) if you don't love the snark now, wait a few weeks, or months of listening to the same questions (almost verbatim) over and over again and you will be praying for a snarky answer, or you might just respond with some snark yourself.  That is all.

j/k. Yeah, it's just one of those things that you learn with time. *Sometimes* I feel bad because some new girls have no clue what hit them. They don't know about the "lurk for a while first" rule!

So, you've learned that no one should say they'll never be snarky, right?  A+. Smile

  • Who knew that being pregnant as an adult would be just like being in high school! So many rules and politics about what to say and what not to say. Good thing we're not literally in the same room as each other I'd be digging cat claws out my cheek!

Being pregnant as an adult isn't like high school. But being on pregnancy message boards is. You know, in high school, how you get more "seniority" as the years pass and you also become very over the things that are "so high school?" You laugh at the poor clueless freshman who are so excited about high school and can't find their classes. You already got accepted to college and can't wait to graduate. It's kind of like that.

Kinda like how I got lost when trying to find PM's?!  But not how I got confused about asking if sparkling water was bad for me (do ya'll remember that?!  And no it wasn't me that asked it).  I hope this means like that.  Because I was totally lost looking for PM's.

  • I get it. but, as this is a "pregnancy board" people should not be chastized for asking pregnancy questions no matter how stupid they are. I just think it's rude and immature. Nobody is better than anybody else because they are "more pregnant." And like everybody else and I'm sure you are too, I'm over this topic so let's not talk about it anymore

So... I can't respond? Just quickly- no one IS better because they are further along or "more pregnant." But it's a feeling or sense that some people get. The high school analogy works because a senior isn't really a better human being than a freshman. But they tend to think they are smarter/wiser/more experienced, etc than them. People shouldn't feel chastized because of it.... but I just understand how it all works.

    Amen

This is a pregnancy board. If youa re tired of those questions. Just ignore them. Don't respond. You don't have to respond.
