Piper's 1st day at the daycare center

Well, she has an ear infection but the pedi said we could send her today as long as she was acting OK since she'd been on antibiotics for 24+ hours. She was acting fine this morning so DH brought her for a 1/2 day (they'll start full-time next week).

He just picked her up - they said she did great! She ate beans and cornbread at lunch (didn't want the carrots, Piper's a terrible eater so I'm happy with beans & cornbread!) She slept for over 2 hours on a cot! (this amazes me!). She played well with the other kids and only cried for a few seconds after DH left. He said when he left she was playing with Play Doh and when he came to get her she was pushing around a little shopping cart.

I'm sure there will be rough days once the novelty wears off (and I'm sooo not looking forward to leaving Kady) but I have to say I'm pleased that her first day went so positively.

  • Awwwwwww, YAY!  It sounds like it was a smashing success!  Reading your post made me get tears in my eyes.  It's so tough making those transitions, and it sounds like Piper handled it in a very mature way.

I agree that leaving Kady will be hard.......but it will go even better than Piper's visit, I bet.  I will be thinking of you all next week.  Will you be handling both pickups and dropoffs?

  • That is such great news! I am sure Piper is going to adjust really well there., sounds like a great atmosphere for her. I know it is going to be hard to leave Kady on Mon. Hugs to you. I am sure it will all work out fine and just think with a center, you never have to worry about them calling off or quitting on you last minute.
  • Glad she did ok!

  • Katie, we're not sure about the drop offs and pick ups yet...DH is starting a new job and isn't sure what his schedule will be like throughout training. He's training at a location in Clifton next week though so it will probably be me doing both then. I hope it's not always going to be me doing both though!
  • Yay! I'm so happy to hear that.
  • The overprotective mommy in me says that either let your DH drop off Kady the first day, or you do it together.   :)   It's so hard that first time.

I do both pickups and dropoffs......I kind of like it that way.  I hate the dropoff part, now that Justin cries every day......but it's so worth it to pick him up when my day is over!!!!   :)

  • Yay!  Glad to hear it went well!  It must be a relief for you!
  • I am glad it went so well.  Knowing that Piper is doing well in the day care will put you so much more at ease when it is time to leave Kady there too.  I agree with sistrkate, it makes it so much easier to have DH do the drop offs the first few times until you get used to the idea.
