Can you mix an antibiotic w/ cereal or formula?

DS is on an antibiotic and is not liking it.  He's pushing it right back out of his mouth and crying each time.

We've tried small little drops....right back out.  Larger amounts farther back.....right back out.  You get the idea.

Can I mix his dose w/ some oatmeal or formula and hope he doesn't notice?  I feel like he's barely getting any and I am desperate here.

  • I think it's ok - I've seen special bottles made for giving medicine that you use with formula/bm to mask the taste.

  • I would call my pedi - or ask the pharmacist where you got the prescription.
  • What if your LO doesn't finish their bottle/cereal?  Then they are not getting the correct dosage.
  • I called the pharmacist and asked on this too just last week. They said you can mix it but to mix a small amount of milk with it and give that first before a full bottle. This way you know they are getting the full dose.

At least I know this to be true for amoxacillan (I hate spelling...)

  • jennessey- that was my thought as well....  I was thinking of giving a 2 oz botle and mixing it in.  His bottles are typically 6 oz, so he could drink a small amount like that quickly.

    Sounds like a good plan!
