I know her ideas about caloric intake and weight gain are subject to some debate on this board, but I don't really have any other reference for how big I'm supposed to be right now. According to Dr. Luke's book, I should have gained at least 19 pounds so far. I've only gained 10 and feel like I'm eating like a horse! At my last u/s, the babies were measuring just fine so I'm not too concerned, but I'm wondering when all this weight gain is going to hit me.
Did you guys gain weight steadily all throughout your PG, or did you have "growth spurts" at times where you suddenly put on a lot of weight in a short period of time? Should I be more concerned about this?
Re: Dr. Luke's weight gain schedule
I gained 70 pounds total....50 of that was in the last 4 months. ?It was like a snowball effect. ?I was right with my singleton girlfriend (size and weight wise) until week 21.
I will admit though that I ate whatever I wanted and I took off work the month before delivering...staying home with ALL the holiday food was amazing! ?And I never had any morning sickness or food aversions.
BTW-my kids were 7.3 and 5.6 born at 37 weeks and I am 6'1. ?I lost 33 pounds the week after delivery.
Trina?
You shouldn't be concerned at all. I'm not a Dr. Luke fan - I didn't even know that the book existed until I joined these boards AFTER my girls were born. When I found out that I was pregnant w/ trips at 17 weeks, everyone started telling me that I should have gained all this weight. My doctor told me no - that I really didn't need to eat that much more.
I carried my girls to 35.6 weeks and gained 50 lbs. The babies weighed 5.3, 4.13 and 4.13. I started out at 105 lbs.
The babies are going to take what they need from you. Anything else is just going to be extra weight on your body.
I have the same worries right now. ?I'm 15.5 weeks and have only gained 3 pounds, even though I'm eating a lot. ?These responses make me feel somewhat better. ?
Maybe Dr. Luke's book isn't so great after all. ?My OB/GYN said to just eat to the point of satiation and that Dr. Luke's book was written before they could monitor babies' growth as well as they can now w/ultrasound. ?So I guess Dr. Luke's plan was to just tell women to gain like crazy in the hopes that it'd pass on to the babies. ?I don't know if that's a fair assessment, but that seems to be what my dr. thinks.
I definitely wouldn't worry! Just keep eating and believe me, the weight will come. :-)
As for me, I threw up for 28 of the 34 weeks, so I only gained 28 pounds total. Weight always tends to pick up during 2nd/3rd tri so don't worry!
