Has anyone else heard that eating lunch meat is bad when you are pregnant and why? I'm really missing my bagel sandwiches for lunch and I am curious if there is any truth to what I read.
Lunch meat has the potential for listeriosis contamination, and pregnant women are at greater risk for developing foodborne illness from this. Not sure it would be the same thing for you, but thoroughly cooking the meat prior to eating helps destroy the bacteria. Otherwise, sticking with other cooked meats (i.e., grilled chicken, ground turkey, etc.) is the best bet during pregnancy.
