We found out we are having a girl last week, and I always knew my first daughter would be Olivia after my late grandmothers name, which was Olive. Now Olive is starting to grow on me, just wondering what you thought!
I like Liv. Olive doesn't seem "cute" to me, because I just think of green, vinegary olives. But attached to a darling little girl, it would probably strike me differently.

The great thing about NNs is that you can have multiple NNs for one person, and they can change over time...
I think that Olive is cute and would be a great name for you, DH, and your family in general to call her. Somehow, it sounds like more of a pet name to me than most NNs, so she might not want to be called "Olive" at school, etc. So that's when the alternate Liv/Livvy nickname could be used.
I like Olivia a lot. And, I like Olive. But, I don't like Olive as a nickname for Olivia. To me, it seems like if you want to call your baby Olive, you should just name her Olive.

I really like the name Olivia too but can't seem to get DH to go for it. (Bummer!) I think Olive is a good name or nickname, either way! My great-grandmother was named Olive so it's a special name in our family!
My DD's name is Olivia and here are all of her nicknames (so far): Liv, Livy, Ollie (I really don't like Ollie, but it's what her cousins call her and it sounds cute when they call her that), and she calls herself Oie Oie - like the O sound with ee at the end. She's two, she can say porcupine but not Olivia:)

Liv is a great nickname, I agree. Very cool.
I'm w/ pp. If you want to call her Olive, that's a name. Just name her Olive.
To me, the nicknames for Olivia are Liv and Livie (or Livvy.. or however you want to spell it!).
Name your kid what you plan on calling them.
I am not a fan of nicknames, especially intentional ones. If they happen so be but if I plan on calling my kid Mike I will name him mike, not michael.
My sister's name is Olivia, also named after great-grandma.
We (or her friends) call her:
Olivia
Olive
Olive-hee-haw
O
Liv
Livvie
Livvie-Lou (Lou is not part of her name whatsoever ... it just came out!)
OJ (middle name is Jayne)
and a couple of her college friends call her Via because they think it sounds cool. Whatever.
Good luck!
