Big u/s on Monday & peri question

There really is absolutely no point to this post other than the fact that I'm so excited to actually see the babies again!  I haven't had an u/s since 7w1d, so it's been quite a while!

I'm also meeting w/ the peri that day and was told that the meeting could take about an hour.  What can I expect?

Have a nice weekend ladies :-)

Re: Big u/s on Monday & peri question

  • Obviously every doc is different, but I can tell you about my 1st peri appt.  We had to meet with a genetic counselor before the u/s.  We didn't ask for that or anything, but MFM at my hospital does it with every patient they see.  That took maybe half an hour of them asking a million questions.  Then, we had the u/s which took a long time- maybe an hour and a half.  She did a TON of measurements, told us the genders, gave us some pictures, etc.  Then, the peri came in an talked to us about the u/s, asked us more questions, we asked all of our questions (I had a list, lol).  All told, I think we were there for close to 3 hours.

Not sure this will be your experience, though, esp if they don't do the genetic counseling, etc.  Also, they were looking very carefully at the boys' hearts and brains since DD had a neo-natal stroke, so that may have taken a little more time.  GL!  So exciting to see the babies again!

  • My experience was that the ultrasound took over an hour and the peri came in for about 15 min. or so to tell us that everything looked ok.  They looked at hearts, brains, stomachs, liver, spine, hands, feet, head, every single part very carefully during the u/s.  We found out the sex of the babies.  The whole thing was really cool to see all those little parts working!  The peri came in after reviewing the u/s and did a quick u/s to see for herself and told us that everything looked great and there were no genetic markers for any diseases/disorders/syndromes that they could see.  Bring questions and be ready to see your babies!!  It's so fun!
  • i had my first u/s at 7w, and my second "official" one at 16w, so i know how long that wait is! but lucky for me, i had a friend who is an ob who did u/s on me almost every week in between, for peace of mind. :)

anyway, at my first MFM appt, we had a very long, detailed u/s to measure all of the babies very carefully, then we met with the MFM and talked about things. that was it.

  • No advice here but I just wanted to say I know how you feel. I have my first peri appt. on Tuesday. I'll be 20 weeks and I haven't had one since the initial ultrasound when we found out there were two at 9 weeks. I am so excited too and its nice to know what to expect at the appointment.
