We're right at 8 months this week. I read that this is a good time for cheese and yogurt but what kind should I start with? Specifially, should I be giving her plain yogurt without the fruit and just mix it with her purees? And should I be giving her only things made with whole milk; is low fat cheese and yogurt a no no?
Re: Introducing cheese and yogurt?
We started both yogurt and cheese between 9 - 9.5 months. Our pedi recommended either the Yo Baby yogurt, or plain vanilla regular yogurt, and not the low-fat kind. Babies need the fat in dairy when they are young (hence giving them whole milk at 12 months instead of 2% or skim). Yo Baby has some great flavors and is digested easily.
We started out with string cheese when we introduced cheese. Kroger carries the "Cow Tales" brand and that's what we use. Sometimes we get the plain white and other times the marbled kind, we just alternate between them. Now that DS is over a year, he has branched out to other types of cheese but he prefers the string cheese variety the best.
