Success after IF

when did you start working on your nursery?

I'm only nine weeks, so it's not like I feel the need to start doing it now, BUT right now my office is in the future nursery, and I work from home. My DH has to finish a room for me in the basement, so I'm trying to figure out how long that will take and then kinda do the calendar backwards from there... yah, I have too much time on my hands today.... Re: when did you start working on your nursery?

  • I only had to paint and find a new home for the existing guest room bedroom furniture. We started to paint around 25/26 weeks and I think we emptied out the room around 30 weeks.  If you need a room finished in the basement, I would start thinking of how to go about doing that if you need internet/phone/rug/walls.  Those things can take a while.  And finishing it up early wouldn't be a big deal... but finishing it too late might!

  • In December my DH emptied out one of the guest rooms and painted it.  Then we set up the crib and changing table/dresser.  So far that is all we have done; we still have lots of time to finish the room.  The only reason we did it so early is because DH had lots of vacation time to burn before year end so he used the time to finish a bunch of projects around the house.  I'm sure the nursery won't be finished for a long while.
  • I didn't do anything until the NT Scan at 13 weeks and then we did a lot. We got rid of old furniture and junk that was in that room and cleaned out the closet (I refused to do anything while TTTC, because it depressed me), then he painted the room and we got new carpet. We ordered our furniture at 15 weeks and it came in super early (they said 8-12 weeks), so it will be delivered at the end of the month. I also picked out the decor for the border, valance & bed skirt that we'll use. We are certainly on the early side, but I thought it would be nice to have it done before I get too big and I'm waddling around trying to get the nursery done. We should be all done by 25 weeks or so.
  • thanks for asking this! i was just getting on to ask the same exact thing.
  • Our nursery is sorta set up already, we have a crib and things where they will go, but will be getting newer ones (the ones we have are second-hand garage sale finds for my nephew).

that said, If you have animals, start setting the nursery up ASAP so they get used to it.  the longer they have the better they will adjust to it.

  • Ours has been a slow work in progress...

I ordered the furniture about 18 or 19 weeks - and it didn't come in until 27ish weeks.  We got new carpet in our entire upstairs - requiring to clean out the room around 24 weeks.  Now, at 30 weeks, all we've got done is the first coat of paint and a new ceiling fan.  I'm starting to feel the crunch...I wish it was further along.  We have so much going on for the next 8-9 weeks on the weekends, I don't know when it's going to get all done.

I would shoot for having it majorly done by 25-28 weeks (paint/furniture/organization system) - with just adding decor and bedding.  JMO :)

It's never too early to start!
